LEGAL AND REGULATORY ASPECTS OF NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

A training programme has been organised by the Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems (CIKS) from 26 to 28 November 2007. Legislations in India such as the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Act (2001) and international treaties such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (1992) influence the conservation and sustainable utilisation of biodiversity by farming communities. However, the knowledge regarding these legislations and their implications for the field work is limited. The CIKS training programme provides an introduction and orientation to relevant legislation for researchers and field staff from NGOs, academics and students from selected disciplines, and farmers. The training is part of the COMPAS activities in India.
